Colour Blocking with Black
Black has had a bad wrap over the years with images of ‘bachelor-pad-like’, overbearing sofa’s, cold, soul-less black marble bench tops and dust collecting, cheap looking flat packed entertainment units. Well fear no longer! Black can be warm, calming, neutral and most importantly, chic and timeless. All-black rooms are cocoon-like and cosy and colour-blocking black elements can frame the room and help light objects pop against it. You just have to know the correct way to use black in decorating.
The most effective decorating advice we can give is to colour-block large expanses of black in areas like walls, floors, shelving and fireplaces against white. Banks of seating in black and unexpected oversized art or lighting in black will also work. Think true black (we love Dulux Night Sky) in matte or satin finish for maximum effect.
